Epics are always a fun genre, and I hate that they don’t see much love. I’ve read a few epic stories, but The Emperor of Babylon has a distinct style to it that’s similar to the Big Epics that were once in theatres. Unlike many books in this genre, The Emperor of Babylon isn’t so heavy on the exposition to where it becomes dry to read. The dialogue feels appropriate for the era, from kings to peasants alike, which makes the journey an enjoyable one. I especially liked how there is conflict between religion and science seems more of the common man approach, as most epics usually do not address these questions with their story without delving into philosophy. This is a new favorite epic o mine, and I look forward to seeing more from this author!Product details

The Emperor of Babylon The Orfeo Saga Book 2 eBook Murray Lee Eiland Jr Reviews
Summer is gone and winter is setting in. I picked this book up for a summer read, and I did not get around to it until now. Better late than never. The characters are fun, and there is a fair amount of action as well as humor. The author has a particular sense of humor that takes a little time to get used to. Overall the action and adventure part of the novel is secondary to the overall plot, which revolves around a new hero and his wife finding a path. It is nice to see a junior team start to take responsibility. I will certainly read the next novel.
The Emperor of Babylon pushes ancient Greeks eastwards, to ancient Iraq. It is a very interesting historical premise. There is no doubt that Greeks made contact, at a very early date, with the far more ancient civilizations of the east. This book outlines what those early Greeks would have seen and felt. It was a vast empire, with myriads of different peoples. There were mega-cities that would have been simply overwhelming. The state apparatus was far more efficient (plenty of evidence for government taxes from an early date). Then again there was also intrigue as well as corruption. While the Greeks were not immune to either of these, the book makes it clear that deception was something of an art form in the east. And, it seems that no one is better than Clarice at disguise, as well as gaining trust. The origin of the Wanderers is also covered in this book. They are something of a cult, but not quite a religion. While they may have been founded to secure to future of their tribe, their ethical system was expanded by Zurga to include all peoples. It is so well written that it made me think that even if such a group never existed, I would still like to think they did anyway!
Now, the young Orfeo and his wife Clarice take up on an ambitious adventure to save their old mentor-friend Zurga, who was captured by the Emperor of Babylon. This epic story made me very, very happy with two things in particular. One is that the greater Ancient Near East includes Greece, and the whole region is depicted as a complex, multi-lingual, multi-ethnic, "urban" cultural-sphere. This image helps anyone to contemplate the "ancient" civilizations, which are in that way not very much different from ours now. Two, only three persons, namely Orfeo, Clarice and Zurga, of "good will" can bring about the world peace; it reminded me that peace is not created by weapons and war machines, but, rather, simply by our willingness to get along with everyone. This book is very valuable just for these two points alone, but there are other satisfying messages too. I am very thankful for the second installment of the Orfeo Saga.
While I enjoyed the story, it is really quite far fetched and rather juvenile. Also, the style is stilted and each page is replete with both numerous grammatical and spelling errors.
Historical Fiction stories are always exciting for me because you can imagine what it is really like over in the countries or places they take place in. Also we find out more about the culture of those who live there as well. This is one of those book series that does just that but also the author enhances the surroundings with the compelling story.
In this one, the greedy Emperor of Babylon is seeking a way to control the volcanic eruptions that have been reeking havoc on the city for some time. He discovers Zurga and kidnaps him, planning on using him in order to gain the power he seeks. Only, he has Orfeo and Clarice to worry about as they begin trying to find a way to get Zurga back.
This book is a great addition to the saga and the ending makes me wonder what may happen next. Author Murray Lee Eiland, Jr. brings his characters back and ready to take on new challenges and villains. I can't wait to see what's next!
A big fan of these historical fantasy novels and The Emperor Of Babylon is one of the best I have read in recent years. Some books you pick up and put down over the course of a week but far less are the ones you pick up and have to read in one sitting. Well, The Emperor Of Babylon certainly fits in the latter. Intriguing plotting, great descriptions without becoming overly detailed and highly memorable characters combine to make a highly enjoyable story.
